Source - Movie rental chain Blockbuster is to shutter its U.K. operations after it failed to attract a buyer.
Private equity firm Gordon Brothers Europe, which bought Blockbuster in March, put it into administration — the U.K. equivalent to Chapter 11 — on Nov. 11. It had 264 stores, and employed 2,000 staff at that time.
Sometimes I start to get worried that US is really falling on hard times. China is passing us in education, technology, and high quality pork. Canada is pummeling us hockey. Spain is gonna beat us in basketball soon. The Dutch have people living on Mars. I mean how much longer can we keep calling ourselves the world power with a straight face.
And then I read stories like this. Are you telling me that people in the UK have been renting DVDs still? Like they go to a store, swipe their blockbuster card, buy a dvd, then have to return it in two days or pay a late fee? Good lord. They probably jerk off to swimsuit issue by candle light too.
