LA trying to ban E cigarettes

Source - Calling it a gateway to a future cigarette smoking, the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday took the first steps to ban e-cigarettes — which turn liquid nicotine into a vapor smokers inhale through an atomizer — by voting to impose strict restrictions on how and where the products can be sold.

“Today is a vital step forward in the cause of public health,” Councilman Paul Koretz said before the council’s 15-0 vote to treat e-cigarettes as if they were a tobacco-based product.

“The city of Los Angeles is doing exactly the right thing by creating a local regulatory framework for e-cigarettes and other tobacco products. It is clear the number of people smoking e-cigarettes who have never smoked tobacco is increasing. This is a gateway drug.”

Call me crazy but wasn't the invention of e cigarettes taking a step forward in the cause of public health in the first place? Like we get cigarette smokers to slowly stop smoking. So how is banning them going to help? Also calling an e cigarette a gateway drug is like calling me an actor. Isn't weed legal out here, the real gateway drug? 

I know one LA resident who is NOT going to be happy about this.
